Kirsty started her apprenticeship journey on a business administration course with West Suffolk College before realising that this wasn't the best fit for her. James Hutchings

Level 3 Welding and Fabrication, Warren Services

Upon finishing school, James went straight to college to study for his Level 2 in Engineering. It was here that his teacher pointed out that an apprenticeship might be a good option for career progression - given that James completed the course early. Pamela Ransome

Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor, East of England Co-op

Upon being promoted to a supervisor position within the finance team at the East of England Co-op group, Pamela was keen to gain additional experience in leadership and management, so she put herself forward for an apprenticeship in just that.

Morgan Lingley & Phoebe Allen Smith

Multiple Apprentices, Flagship Group

Back in 2018, Morgan started his Level 4 apprenticeship in Housing Policy and Practice with Flagship. He came straight in to the role from sixth form knowing that university wasn’t an option he was interested in pursuing.

​

Phoebe hadn’t considered a career within the housing industry prior to seeing the apprenticeship vacancy with Flagship Homes. Initially, she had applied to study Psychology at university, and had her heart set on doing a doctorate. However, she didn’t feel that she was entirely devoted to the subject and given the implications of large student loans and additional years of study, decided to explore other options.

Charlotte Miller

Teaching Assistant Standard Apprenticeship, Lonsdale School

Charlotte is a learning and support assistant, working with children who have physical and neurological disabilities at Lonsdale School in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. She absolutely loves her role as no two days are the same, and she goes in to work everyday unable to predict what might happen. Challenges range from behavioural issues through to medical emergencies and understanding the correct procedures to follow to ensure the children’s safety is paramount.

Gosia Rogalska

Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management, Bills

Having worked with Bills restaurant group for eight years, it’s fair to say that Gosia got her fair share of experience in the varying sectors of the business. Starting out as a training and support chef, she developed her skills within the kitchen quickly and held this position for a number of years. Seeking a further challenge within the company, Bills were happy to oblige and offered Gosia an opening chef position which included overseeing kitchen training for staff members. Fast forward to present day, and Gosia has been heavily involved with food development and curating menu’s to roll out across the national branches of Bills restaurants.

Jacob Cassidy

Level 2 Activity Leader, Woolenwick Infant and Nursery School

Jacob initially began an Early Years Apprenticeship at Woolenwick School before realising that it wasn’t right for him. As a massive sports fan with an interest in how the theory of sport was applied within schools, he opted for a sideways move and joined Sporting Futures on a Level 2 Activity Leader apprenticeship programme, still at Woolenwick Infant School, allowing him to remain close to home and work in a setting with which he was already familiar. Initially hesitant with the move due to uncertainty around committing to another course that just ‘didn’t feel right’, Jacob is proud to say that in hindsight, applying himself to the course is one of the best decisions he could have made for his career.

Megan Goode

Level 4 Software Engineering, BGL Group

Megan was an aspiring software engineer with little understanding of how to get into the industry. Having studied IT and art at sixth form, it’s fair to say that school hadn’t pushed apprenticeships as a progression option. She had studied a website design module that really peaked her interest in the field, and so it was down to Megan to research and understand how to progress with her career.

Kami Chahal

Level 4 Associate Project Manager, Hertfordshire County Council

Having spent the majority of her working life in the private sector, Kami was seeking a change of pace and in that search, found herself on the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) team. As a Commissioning Officer within the Community Support Commissioning Team, she wanted to push herself further and was delighted to discover that apprenticeship programmes were a potential opportunity.

Nijuta Patel

Hospitality Supervisor Level 3, ISS

Nijuta works for a company called ISS, who specialise in cleaning, catering, security services and much more. She is based at a large client site in Luton. As a hospitality supervisor, her role consists of a range of tasks including stock management, helping out in the coffee shop and even managing people when required.

Joanne Andrews

Teaching Assistant Standard, Lonsdale School

After spending 13 years as a childminder, primarily with children under 5, Joanne was considering a further challenge in her career and was seeking something that aligned with her experience to date. As she has a child with special needs that attended Lonsdale school for after school club — when a learning support assistant position became available she jumped at the chance.

Chloe Hicks

Higher Apprenticeship Sales Executive, Ryall Marketing

Working as part of a small team at Ryall Marketing based in Hertfordshire, Chloe initially undertook a business administration apprenticeship with the company. She was unsure about exactly which path to pursue with regards to her career and hoped a programme that focused on business management and communications would help guide her. Having not found the spark she was hoping to with this role, it was getting involved with the company’s marketing efforts on a small scale that made Chloe realise this was an avenue she was interested in pursuing.

Jade has always wanted to work with children but after completing an Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification is now celebrating not only increased pay and more responsibility but also the first milestone in a career as an Early Years educator.

Luke Cole

Supply Chain Warehouse Operative, BT

Luke works for BT Engineering Services, and whilst he began his time with the company in a warehousing position, he has recently moved to a more project focused role. Where he would normally be co-ordinating deliveries and engineering pick-ups, he now has an oversight of entry level projects and is helping the team to make the company processes as inclusive as possible, alongside working to try and engineer solutions that will make the work environment more enjoyable and easier to navigate.

Lauren Saunders

HR Support Level 3, RES

A year after starting her career with RES in an admin position, Lauren moved into the HR team, supporting two advisers. She had always wanted to complete a CIPD qualification, so when the opportunity arose to do a Level 3 apprenticeship programme, she agreed to go ahead. With an apprenticeship levy available, RES agreed to support Lauren with this development path.

Garry has worked with Pets at Home for over seven years, and in that time has worked his way up for the position of Store Manager. Having decided to start an apprenticeship in Animal care in 2019, Garry shares insights into the benefits of the programme.

Sarah Toman

Higher Apprenticeship in Business Administration, MBDA UK

Sarah started her business apprenticeship in 2016 with MBDA UK, a defence company based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The structure of the programme would allow Sarah to gain experience in a wide range of sectors within the business, as she completed short placements within HR, purchasing, procurement and commercial departments to name a few.

William Bates

Level 3 Landbased Engineering, CLAAS UK

Admittedly not the biggest fan of school and keen to learn more with a ’hands on’ approach, Will needed to weigh up his options following his GCSE’s. Unsure exactly which career path would suit him best, Will came across a service engineering apprenticeship programme with CLAAS UK and after some research, decided it seemed to align with his interests as he had an agricultural background. The outcome of this programme would allow him to qualify as a standard service engineer.

Gemma Jones

Level 3 Adult Care Worker, St Michaels Homes Ltd

Gemma has a passion for caring for others and this is evident in both her personal and working life. Having completed a Level 2 qualification in 2017 and eager to continue with her development, she began working at Howard Lodge, an elderly care home in Brentwood as a carer before progressing to a senior level.

Nicholas Owen

Healthcare Support Worker Level 2, NHS

Nick spends his hours working as a Healthcare Assistant at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he primarily focuses on patient care and assisting onsite Nurses. He helps with the day to day handling of patients, updates on observations and follows reporting procedures to aid Nursing staff too.
